Bruges, One of the Principal Cities of Flanders.

(Old Prints, 18th Century Prints, Europe, Low Countries, Belgium, Flanders, Bruges, City Plan, Military Fortifications).

Issued c. 1740, London. Engraved by J. Basire.

Wonderful mid-18th century birds-eye city plan. Engraved with lovely hand color.

Key identifying 40 specific buildings on either side of title across bottom. Numerous terrain features, ramparts, garden plans and hundreds of tiny individual buildings. Two explanation keys in the lower corners identify over 60 specific important structures and locations.

Very nice looking example with a pleasing age patina, various old soft fold lines across map which are easy to overlook or forgive. The top two side corner blank margin areas have been nicely extended with old paper and if the map were framed this would be close to invisible when viewing it.

Original centerfold as issued.

Sheet Measures c. 16 3/4"H x 20 3/4"W.

Engraved Area Measures c. 15 1/4"H x 19 3/8"W.
