Short video captures condition much better than words. Please watch prior to purchase to ensure a clear understanding of the book. Nicer than typical for the type of binding and era of production.
The Lily of the Valley, for 1858. With Illustrations.
1859, Boston, James M. Usher. pp. 243. Six engraved plates (complete).
Beautiful mid-19th century publishers full leather gift book binding.
Ornately gilt decorated spine, covers in ornate and intricate embossed raised relief, central floral gilt stamps. All edges gilt, engraved frontis and half title, four further engraved plates (total of six steel engravings).
Sound, clean, tight example. Light rubbing and scuffing along joints and edges of covers, some engraved plates a bit spotted.
Overall gilt and leather are bright and appealing, a lovely antiquarian book. Any small age flaws easy to forgive or overlook.
Book measures: 7 3/8" H X 5 1/8" W.
