Monumental complete two volume set covering a remarkable range of topics, including Whale fisheries, money and banking, pagan religions, cookery, superstitions, phrenology, China and the Tea Trade, geology, optics, chemistry, astronomy,flower and fruit gardening, bees, printing, engraving, lithography, proverbs, etc.
Also of particular note for the extensive 50 pp. worth of detailed information related to emigration to British North America, the U.S.A., Australia, New Zealand and Van Diemen's Land (with two scarce near full page woodcut maps).
Period full leather, contrasting gilt lettered title labels. Marbled end papers and edges.
Bindings show signs of age, time and handling, spine ends chipped, joints cracked. Books still remain structurally sound and tight, very clean internally.
Uncommon large heavy set with outstanding content.
