A standard reference work, found here in a scarce early original printing, complete with the large folding historical timeline plate.
Period leather binding, smooth spine, gilt bands, gilt title lettering on contrasting red leather label, gilt cover decorations.
Rebacked long ago retaining original leather spine and covers. Some old tape repairs to a couple early page edges, lower corner of title page backed with paper to replace sliver of blank margin loss. Text block paper uniformly toned.
Book remains well preserved and attractive on the shelf. It displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, the age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
