Short video captures condition much better than words. Please watch prior to purchase to ensure a clear understanding of the book.
The Book of Common Prayer, and Administration of The Sacraments, and Other Rites and Ceremonies of the Church, According to the Use of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America: Together with the Psalter, or Psalms of David.
Published 1836, New York by the Protestant Episcopal Press.
478, 132 & 132 pages. Engraved frontis portrait and half title. Several full page engraved biblical Illustrations by C. Heath throughout.
Period publishers full gift leather binding, raised bands, rich gilt decorations and lettering in spine compartments, gilt patterned turn-ins. Early personalized female to female gift dedication in gilt on front cover set within gilt rules cornered by devices. All edges gilt.
Some rubbing and scuffing on spine and covers, front joint well cracked, cover slightly loosened but still firmly attached, leather remains supple, binding remains tight and sound. Old Theology School bookplate to front pastedown, small name blind stamps to t.p. & another leaf.
Ever so slightly defective- someone long ago (original owner?) has neatly cut a single column prayer from a single leaf (shown in video- about half of pg. 25), likely to keep in their wallet or purse or to give away to someone.
Still an attractive and appealing book with great age patina and a unique personalized female interest.
Book measures: 9" H X 6" W.
