Includes a full page wood engraving from April 1849 of miners in Sacramento Valley Upper California as well as a full page view of the harbor of Honolulu in the "Sandwich Islands". Feb. 1849 issue title page is a full page early view of Oregon City, plus there are views of Niagara Falls, Lake George NY, many important people of the era, views of specific locations, etc. All the images have text that accompanies them. Also contains a couple Edgar Allen Poe items,
Period publisher's cloth binding, gilt spine decorations, embossed and gilt cover decorations, all edges gilt. Binding remains clean, tight, and sound. Interior contents display scattered age spotting.
Book remains well preserved and attractive on the shelf. It displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, the age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
