United States Japan Expedition: Observations on the Zodiacal Light from April 2, 1853 to April 22, 1855, Made Chiefly on Board the United States Steam-Frigate Mississippi During Her Late Cruise in Eastern Sea and Her Voyage Homeward: With Conclusion from the Data Thus Obtained, by Rev. George Jones, A.M. Chaplain United States Navy.
Published 1856, Washington D.C. by Beverley Tucker, Senate Printer.
705 pages, text in English, complete with 352 celestial star chart plates of the night sky. Volume III only (of 3), this being the separate and complete unto itself astronomical observations volume.

Period embossed cloth binding, elaborate gilt decoration and lettering on spine, cover ruled and pictorial decoration stamped in blind. Some fading of gilt decoration, rubbing on cover. Any age flaws are easy to overlook or forgive.

Binding remains tight and sound, interior contents display a uniform age patina, and remain clean and largely free of spotting or foxing. A handsome volume with a pleasing shelf appearance.
