Elements of Geography, Ancient and Modern: by J. E. Worcester.
Published 1824, Boston, Cummings, Hillard & Co.
pp. 293, woodcuts throughout, including early woodcut view of the Capitol building in Washington D.C.
A separate thin paper covered atlas was issued to accompany the book, this atlas not present with the book (as typical).
Charming small woodcut views throughout. Every state is discussed as is the entire world.
Period 1/4 leather binding, covers well scuffed and rubbed. A very heavily used school text book from the first quarter of the nineteenth century. Corners all rounded, several pages well torn, small staining and smudge marks from handling throughout. Leather dried and chipped at ends, gilt rubbed away.
Book remains well preserved and very attractive on the shelf. It displays a beautiful age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
