The Song of Hiawatha, by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
Published London, 1856, by G. Routledge & Co.
180 pages.

[bound with]:

English Traits, by Ralph Waldo Emerson.
Published London, 1856, by G. Routledge & Co.
176 pages.

Period half-leather binding in grained morocco, raised bands, compartments stamped with ornate devices and rules, covers, end papers and text block edges marbled.

The volume is actually two separate books from the same English publisher, bound together in this uncommon sammelband. Very early (first?) English printings of both works. Worthy of further research.

Quite likely a unique survival, example uniquely bound to order for the original owner shortly after acquiring the works from the publisher's central London shop.

In attractive and well preserved condition, leather supple, tight, sound, any rubbing or age flaws small and easy to overlook or forgive.

Book measures: 6 1/4" H X 4 1/8" W.
