Contes de La Fontaine, by Jean de la Fontaine.
Published c. 1870-80, Paris, by Garnier Freres.
Thick quarto half leather binding, marbled boards and end papers, top edge gilt. Well illustrated with 180 vignette woodcuts throughout by Tony Johannot, C. Boulanger, Roqueplan, Fragonard pere, etc. and with designs by Staal.
Binding sound, clean & tight, well preserved, leather supple, corners a bit bumped and slightly worn, overall a handsome book with nice age patina. Nice paper, relatively light (and always inoffensive) minor scattered foxing throughout to some leaves.
Book measures: 11 1/4" H X 8 1/4" W.
