Gonzalve de Cordoue [Cordova, Spain], ou Grenade Reconquise [Grenada], Vol. 1-3, par Mssr. Juan-Pierre Claris de Florian.
Paris, Anno X [c.1801- French Republic Calendar], a la Librairie Economique.
Early nineteenth century 1/2 leather pocket format French book bindings. Red grained-morocco smooth spines gilt lettered, marbled paper boards and end papers, 15 well-printed engravings throughout.
Set remains sound, tight and mostly clean with some age flaws. Small hole in spine of first vol., small scuffing, corners worn. Still an attractive set with great content, and appealing shelf appearance overall. Any flaws easy to forgive or overlook.
Fifteen wonderful and well-nuanced miniature engravings, some dated 1791.
Author is well regarded historically as a writer of fables for the young with a strong affection for Spanish literary culture. This work is the perfect reflection of that interest.
