Lovely period 1/2 leather bindings, polished brown calf with intricately stamped decorative compartments in Art Nouveau floral linear style.
Contrasting morocco gilt lettered title labels, marbled boards, edges & end papers.
Total of 40 steel plate engravings throughout, plus 300 in-text or full page line drawings and wood engravings.
Overall a beautiful set.
Various minor age flaws scattered about, small spotting or stains, never offensive, any flaws easy to forgive or overlook. Leather remains supple, gilt bright and slightly age subdued, covers and edges lightly rubbed, corners bumped.
Lovely age patina, rare thus.
Overall Rating: 1-10 scale, perhaps 8.5 to 9 as a set. Very pleasing appearance on the shelf.
