Short video captures condition much better than words. Please watch prior to purchase to ensure a clear understanding of the book. Nicer than typical for the era and type type of binding.
A Forest Hymn, by William Cullen Bryant.
c. 1860, New York, Hurd & Houghton. pp. 32; 28. Wood engravings on every page, endless in-text line drawings and wood engravings (some tinted or full page) throughout by John A Nums.
In a handsome publishers period full grained morocco leather binding. Book covers are richly decoratively embossed and ruled in blind with ornate interwoven floral design, raised bands, gilt devices in compartment centers, gilt title, turn-ins gilt decorated in running pattern, silk moire endpapers, all edges of text block gilt, richly illustrated throughout.
Joints scuffed as typical, light rubbing to leather, contents fresh, tight and clean, virtually as when issued. Inoffensive early owner name stamp to bottom edge of text block and copyright page. Excellent overall appearance, pleasing age patina. A beautiful antiquarian book.
Book measures: 9 1/4" H X 7" W.
