c.1855, New York, Leavitt & Allen. pp. 264.
In a splendid mid-19th century publishers embossed and gilt decorated gift binding with six plates which retain their tissue guards.
Covers with splendid intricate embossed floral patterning. Large central gilt oval title surrounded by large flowing gilt leaf and star design. All edges gilt. Six plates as issued [5 engraved + 1 color lithographed].
Sound, tight, very pleasing and well preserved example with nice age patina. Beautiful binding, spine gilt blocked title with loss of gilt as seen, scuffing or rubbing to leather joints and extremities, but overall nicer than typical. Some small edge staining or scattered spotting internally, overall clean.
Scarce thus. Great age patina.
