Wonderful assortment of topics is covered, including Ceylon elephant, "wine with the orientals", gambling, Ross's Expedition, Pepper Trade, Jordan river, pigs in Scotland, comets, cholera as well as the African Hemp plant (!)- There is actually a discussion of the widely known pleasurable effects to be had from smoking the cannabis flower as well as hashish!
Publisher's cloth binding, gilt spine decorations, embossed cover decorations. Remnant of paper label on spine, gilt faded. Binding remains clean, tight, and sound. Interior contents display a pleasing age patina, with some light spotting throughout.
Former ex-libris with remnants of spine paper label and old book plate to front paste down.
Book remains well preserved and attractive on the shelf. It displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, the age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
