Bound in contemporary vellum, original spine gilt title, complete with 64 engraved maps, including the often lacking Mercator World in double hemispheres as well as the Mariners World map.
Wonderful and well preserved example of this early 17th century world atlas, sound & tight. Any short edge tears or small age flaws are minor and easy to overlook or forgive in this well preserved example.
Eight maps relate to or show portions of North America, six show Japan.
Among the numerous noteworthy historical cartographic curiosities are depiction of the mythical island of Friesland in the Atlantic near Iceland. Endless commentary throughout, extensive indexes.
