A New System of Modern Geography, or A General Description of the Most Remarkable Countries Throughout the Known World [...], by Benjamin Davis.
Published 1805, Philadelphia by Jacob Johnson & Co.
628 pages. Text in English. Issued with eight folding maps, now only containing complete maps of So. America, Africa and a very poor condition (but seemingly complete) early United States map (showing Mississippi Territory, etc.). All other maps missing or only partially present.

Period full calf leather binding, smooth spine, gilt bands, gilt title lettering on contrasting red leather label. Rubbing to cover and spine. Some loss of leather at head of spine.

Book is in poor physical condition, leather is dried, chipped, scuffed and rubbed, text block well age browned with rippling and staining. Clearly a book which has literally been read and handled to the point of falling apart although it remains sound and tight.

A rare early American geography in any condition- contains extensive commentary about early territories and states as well as the entire world.
