Period full leather, spine pictorially gilt stamped and lettered, Napoleon standing in uniform with a floral garland, covers intricately geometrically interlaced in blind, large armorial crest to front cover, text block edge marbled. Approximately 20 full page wood engraved plates with original hand color. All text set within ruled boxes.
Volume is a highly detailed biography of Napoleon. Contains detailed descriptions of his numerous military campaigns as well as his acts as Emperor. The author also gives considerable time to Napoleon's relationship with Josephine.
Contains numerous illustrations of battles and soldiers, along with many portraits of Napoleon and other important figures from his military and government.
Binding worn, spine chipped at head with small hole near base, edges scuffed. Despite wear, pleasing patina and appearance, handsome on the shelf. Binding remains structurally sound, mostly tight, paper uniformly age toned but clean internally.
