6 volumes, each volume c. 400 pages. American full mottled calf leather bindings of the era.
Fascinating and unique on-of-a-kind antiquarian set. Complete six volumes, varying imprints, a so-called "married" set. Second book was long ago replaced with an 18th century London version in a similar but varying binding. Early American imprint set with an early replacement book impossible to replicate today and one-of-a-kind thus.
Early full mottled calf bindings in varying states of preservation. Overall sound, scuffed & rubbed, joints worn or cracked, leather dried in spots, spine ends chipped, all covers still attached.
Text blocks display typical moderate toning but are otherwise mostly clean, tight and sound.
Early original female owner's signature to five of the six books.
Pleasing shelf appearance, unique age patina, still a very nice set with a fascinating story behind it,
