Miniature thumb Bibles of first half of 19th century. Illustrated with tiny woodcuts.
[A miniature of the Holy Bible] bound with A Miniature of the New Testament. c.1830-40, Portsmouth, NH by W. & T. Lowd. pp.128, 64.
Period publishers full calf leather binding, smooth spine gilt ruled with title. With 17 (of 18) miniature woodcut illustrations throughout.
Lacks first title page (with small woodcut), book begins with "Old Testament." (otherwise complete, with title page for second work).
Typical worn condition. Leather remains supple, front joint split, cover now held by binding cords, still nice age patina. Text block spotted, complete, light toning and thumb soiling along page edges, moderate scattered small spotting. Rare thus.
Short video captures condition much better than words. Please watch prior to purchase to ensure a clear understanding of the item. Given the intended audience and size, all miniature children's books of this era are rare and often unique survivals.
