Africa Congo interior lakes 1626 Purchas Hondius scarce miniature mapBrian DiMambro- Antiquarian
(West Africa- Congo).
[Re]issued 1626, London for Purchase in his monumental and rare Relations of the World . [first appearance 1607, Amsterdam] -Cartography by J. Hondius.
Charming and uncommon early 17th century antique copper engraved miniature map. Fascinating example of an early 17th century Dutch copper engraved map plate moving from Holland to London and being used by different publishers continuously over a 30+ year period). Variant text on reverse as always.
Map displays overall age toning and light damp staining, less than perfect example but still nice looking and worthy of ownership. Bottom left corner has 2" backing with old paperr to strengthen and slightly extend (see scan of reverse of map). Longitude and latitude graduations surround the map.
Sheet measures c. 12"H x 7 3/4"W.
Printed area measures c. 5 1/2"H x 6 3/4"W.
