Feldkirch Vorarlyberg Austria c.1552 Munster rare map w/ orig. early hand colorBrian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints
Liber III- Veldkirchium oppidum & comitatus - De Germania.
(western Austria on border with Switzerland- Vorarlberg- medieval city- Cosmographia Universalis).
Issued circa 1558-70's, Basel, Switzerland by Sebastian Munster- Latin text edition [4 diff. printings during the 1550's for the Latin text edition, but likely 1550's].
Fine and very early printed image of this location- a mid-16th century urban prospect view woodcut. With very old (possibly original, but certainly hundreds of years old) hand color.
Very few examples of Munster's monumental "Cosmographia Universalis" were ever hand colored (there were over 500 individual wood engraved maps & images throughout), and few loose examples of individual leaves such as this are ever encountered by a collector.
