North Africa Abyssinia Adel coast Red Sea 1719 antique engraved Mallet color mapBrian DiMambro- Antiquarian
Empire des Abyssins- Das Abyssiner Landt.
(Northern Africa- Empire of Abyssinia- Prestor John- Red Sea).
Issued 1719, Frankfort, Germany for A.M. Mallet.
Appears to show the Nile river sources as a huge lake and a chain of mountains representing almost certainly the fabled and apocryphal Mts. of the Moon.
Charming early 18th century copper engraved map, with pleasing full hand color. The image has a near folk-art feel, a style of image quite unique to this time in history. Utterly unlike anything produced today and of modern aesthetic appeal for this reason.
Print paper and engraved area remains well preserved. Some light age wear or surface spotting/ soiling which is visible within the scan, nothing offensive or severe, overall remains clean and nice.
Sheet measures c. 8 " H x 6 " W.
Printed area measures c. 5 7/8" H x 4 " W
