Cupples, Upham & Co. Rail Road & Township Map of Massachusetts. Published at the Boston Map Store, 283 Washington St..

(state maps of 19th century-pocket cartography- includes Connecticut & Rhode Island).

Issued 1884, Boston. Entered Washington D.C. by Cook & Ellis. Lithographed by J. Mayer & Co. [with original hand color].

Of worthy note for the curious and unusual fact that not a single name which appears on the map is noted anywhere within Tooley's monumental 4 volume Dictionary of Mapmakers. Likely indicative of a small local output which escaped his attention over the years. Almost certainly a rare 19th century pocket map.

Well preserved example of this uncommon late 19th century pocket map. Unfolds to a large, oversized map of the state with a detailed population Census list in eight columns box lower left beside an explanation key and includes immigrants (which comprise a note-worthy percentage). The roads shown across the map are in fact postal routes, train lines in darker lines with all stops shown. Economic values by county are shown.

Printed on bond paper which remains quite clean, sturdy and better than typical for the inherently fragile format and type.

Please see video- captures condition better than words.

Sheet measures c. 21 1/4" x 32".

Tooley's Dictionary of Mapmakers, not mentioned anywhere.
