The United States from the Latest Authorities.

Issued c.1851-3, Hartford, CT by Hayward.

Beautiful fresh example of this very uncommon and large mid-19th century folio sheet map. Lithographed with full original hand color on onion skin bond paper.

Extraordinary and historically fleeting cartographic moment for the American west, shown here while it was still mostly territorial and prior to most individual state-hoods aside from California (1850).

Mormon settlement named near Great Salt lake, earliest paths and routes of foot and horse back wagon travel and explorations shown, some dated with names. Emigrants westward routes shown with detail, dating to shortly after the discovery of Gold in California.

Light uniform paper age toning, original fold lines, slight wrinkling, couple trivial near invisible short split repairs near edge, overall remaining clean - a superior example of a little known early coast to coast map.

Sheet measures c. 24" x 39 1/2".

Printed area measures c. 21 1/8" x 38 7/8".
