Uncommon late 18th century American engraved map. One of a relative handful of maps of the world in double hemispheres made in the United States prior to the turn of the 18th century.
Among the features worth noting are Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania- an island) shown attached to the tip of a truncated Australia coastline, Cape Circumcision (sic) partial coastal outline seen in Southern Ocean, the apocryphal "Company's Land" above Japan, a long thin mishaped Alaska, a prominent apocryphal River of the West above California, Florida a tiny thin pencil, joined Great Lakes, etc.
Almost primitive folk-art
Map displays light to moderate age spotting but yet retains a pleasing age patina. Original fold lines as issued.
Sheet measures c. 10 1/8"H x 16 5/8"W.
