The Works of Mr. Abraham Cowley. 1681-2, London by H. Herringman and Mary Clark. With supplemental title pages that include [all shown in video]:
The Mistress: or, Several Copies of Love-Verses.//
Pindarique Odes, Written in Imitation of the Stile & Matter of the Odes of Pindar.//
Davideis, A Sacred Poem of the Troubles of David.//
The Second Part of the Works of Mr. Abraham Cowley.//
The Tragical History of Piramus and Thisbe.//
Naufragium Joculare: Comoedia.
In a period 17th century full leather binding. Raised bands on spine, covers paneled in blind with corner devices, board edges gilt ruled. Stout, thick text block, erratic and non-sequential pagination due to complexity of various works included, appears to be complete with no missing leaves. Copper engraved portrait frontis.
Leather remains supple, binding sound, tight, still well sewn as issued. Some surface scratching to leather, old stains, but still handsome in appearance. Signs of thumbing to foredges, but still mostly clean internally.
Nice antiquarian book.
Book measures: 6 1/2" H X 4" W.
Wing, Short Title Catalogue, C6656 (noting it was the first edition to be issued in this small 12' format, the previous ones all folio or quarto).
