Issue is complete, with centerfold and numerous images worthy of display and collecting. Major artists of the era found within, many appealing line drawings, illustrated advertising, overall unique linear aesthetic.
Jugend magazine was started in the late 19th century in Germany by the journalist Dr. Georg Hirth. The magazine was markedly progressive in both ideals and graphics. The modern approach and sensibility is found throughout the issues, with wonderful jugendstil aesthetics on almost every page, including the advertisements.
The covers are often like posters, the interior graphics often the ideal of German art noveau graphics. Indeed, the much used term " jugendstil " springs from the title of this magazine. It's been said that the typography and hand-lettered fonts continue to influence computer & graphic design fonts of to this day.
Issue measures c. 8 7/8" W x 11 1/2" H.
