Rare and possibly unique early American embossed leather binding.

The Vicar of Wakefield: A Tale, by Oliver Goldsmith, M. B. With the Life of the Author, by Dr. Johnson.
1828, Hartford, Silas Andrus. pp. 252. Second engraved title page with date 1830.

Lovely early book binding, with a central panel plaque set within plain calf blind stamp outlined in running saw tooth pattern.

Leather remains supple, covers attractive with fine age patina. Any surface scuffing or wear is easy to forgive or overlook. Contents well spotted with scattered soiling.

There appears to be no evidence of this binding on this title aside from this present example although further research would be warranted.

Book measures: 6" H X 3 7/8" W.

[V1469].
