New York city lower Manhattan harbor 1850 engraved view print lovely hand colorBrian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints
(harbor- lower Manhattan).
Issued c.1850, Germany by Meyer. Drawn by Dupre. Engraved by F. Geissler.
Prospect urban view looking across the Hudson River towards lower Manhattan from the shore of New Jersey.
Lovely and exquisitely engraved mid-19th century print. Almost microscopically tiny profile reveals under magnification dozens, if not hundreds of specific recognizable features including many specific buildings, ship masts, sail boats, church steeples, etc. Foreground scene shows a couple picking fruit in a basket while a man on horseback approaches the city bottom center.
With excellent, artistic hand color- a superior visual example of this nice view. View displays a great sense of atmosphere, especially the sky.
Nice looking example, clean, pleasing age patina, any minor age flaws are trivial and easy to overlook or forgive.
