President George Washington Currier & Ives c. 1855 antique portrait printBrian DiMambro- Antiquarian
George Washington. [G. Washington].
Issued c. 1850-60, New York by Currier & Ives.
Fine and uncommon original mid-19th century antique lithographed print with original hand color, heightened with gum arabic.
Print remains overall visually attractive. Paper is uniformly age toned, shows other signs of age which include a thin line of light toning across Washington at eye level, a couple dark spots where the original wooden backing to a frame has acidified a burn spot which is now visible thus. The photographs or scan provided should capture the appearance better than words. As can be seen, still a nice looking print relating to George Washington, almost certainly one of the most significant and honorable American men who ever lived.
Great old print entirely worthy of hanging for display.
A visual depiction captured in a manner entirely unique to this era.
Sheet measures c. 10 1/2" H x 15 3/4" W.
Printed area measures c. 9" H x 14" W.
