Issued c.1552-54, Basel, Switzerland by S. Munster for a very early issue of his monumental Cosmography Compendium describing the known world as it was known at this time.
Charming mid-16th century wood engraved image, printed by hand c.1552.
Paper and image remains clean and well preserved with a fine patina and visual appeal, light typical signs of age on a sheet of paper now over 475 years old. Virtually all Munster woodcut images were issued in the context of letterpress text, thus text around and on reverse of the image.
Sheet measures c. 12 1/2"H x 8"W.
