America.

(North America, South America, Pacific Islands, "Dangerous Archipelago" named within South Pacific Ocean).

Issued London, 1817 by Thomson. Engraved by J. & G. Menzies. [1813*].

Beautiful over sized early 19th century folio sheet map. Engraved with lovely original full hand color, highlighted in outline as issued.

North American interior west of the Mississippi only labelled Louisiana (Territory) and New Albion, no hint of interior terrain west of the Stony Mountains (Rockies) which appears to have a clear wide passage through the middle of it allowing for ready east-west travelling. New Albion for California, Fort Saint Francisco is the place name assigned to San Francisco.

Minor light surface age wear and toning as typical, overall map remains clean, well preserved and very attractive. Nice bright example.

Original fold line as issued.

Sheet measures c. 28 1/2" x 21".

Engraved area measures c. 20" x 19".

Tall folio sheet, strong impression from the plate. Atlas position number affixed t.r. as issued.
