O'Neill's Irish Pictorial Newspaper.
Published weekly, 1859, Boston, Massachusetts.
37 issues, from April 16th, 1859 - December 31st, 1859. Apparently complete, an unbroken weekly run. Approx. 620 pages.
Bound edition of a very scarce mid- 19th century Boston newspaper/ periodical focused on Ireland and the Irish immigrants experience in America.
Many small wood engravings throughout (including many/ mostly views of Ireland), nice pictorial title mast head for each issue.
Disbound, lacks binding covers, issues still mostly as sewn by an early binder. Essentially a run of 37 early issues of this rare newspaper, sewn together 160 years ago and surviving by random chance today as we find it.
Paper uniformly age tone throughout, slight edge damage such as splits or corner folds to some pages, overall sound, clean and often clean well preserved contents.
Rare in any condition, no doubt a relatively short-lived and rarely saved paper.
Contains news items about famous Irish people, various views, weekly news from "home", fiction written by Irish and Irish-American authors, job postings, letters to the editors, musical scores and lyrics, as well as numerous period advertisements directed toward Irish immigrants.
Book measures: 12 1/4" H X 9 1/2" W.
