Carte de L'Amerique Septentrionale.

(North America, United States, Canada, New Britain, Russian Alaska, Mexico, Aleutian Islands, Caribbean Sea, Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Central America).

Issued 1830, Paris by Lapie.

Finely engraved large oversize mid-19th century map with original outline hand color. French text.

Interesting early 19th century geographical features, including Mexico still possessing California and most of the southwest. Early Oregon Territory extending up to 54' parallel (in modern Canada) prior to the 1846 Treaty with Great Britain bringing it back to 49'. Of greater interest is the name "District of Columbia" for the region across Oregon Territory that never actually existed as seen here.

REPAIR NOTE: There is a small tear in the map through the middle of Baja California that has been nicely backed by matching paper. The repair appears to be just a small white scrape to surface of map, and blends in visually- It's easy to overlook, miss or forgive and is in no way distracting.

Nice looking example, pleasing age patina with a uniform gentle age toning, blank margins with age spotting, faint minor spotting within map area, any minor age flaws easy to overlook or forgive. Pleasing map suitable for display.

Original center fold as issued.

Sheet measures c. 20" H x 27" W.

Engraved area measures c. 15 1/2" H x 21 3/4" W.
