United States Republic of Texas Canada New Brunswick 1842 Lapie large folio mapBrian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints
Carte des Etats-Unuis d'Amerqiue, du Canada, du Nouveau Brunswick, et d'ume partie de la Nouvella Bretagne.
(North America, United States, Republic of Texas, Missouri Territory, Canada, New Brunswick, Great Lakes, District of Columbia).
Issued 1842, Paris by Lapie.
Finely engraved large oversize mid-19th century map with original outline hand color. French text.
Note the Republic outline shape of Texas. A huge northward protrusion above Oregon Territory into modern day British Columbia Canada, here called "District of Columbia", an apocryphal cartographic place name.
large Missouri Territory occupies much of the middle of the country, above an over size elongated Territory of Arkansas. Jefferson is prominently named in the middle of Missouri. Michigan Territory with an inaccurate western shore-line, North-West Territory seen in modern day Wisconsin and Minnesota. Dozens of indigenous Indian tribal names across the entire west.
Interesting transitional map capturing the country from coast to coast during a brief historical moment which quickly passes cartographically.
Nice looking example, pleasing age patina with a uniform gentle age toning, blank margins with age spotting, faint minor spotting within map area, any minor age flaws easy to overlook or forgive. Pleasing map suitable for display.
Original center fold as issued.
Sheet measures c. 20" H x 27" W.
Engraved area measures c. 15 1/2" H x 21 3/4" W.
