Heil. Leben und Wunderwerck PIJ V. Romis...1712, Augsburg, gedrucht bei Joseph Gruber, Catholis Buchbr.
Pleasing early 18th century European full vellum binding, original individually hand made brass clasps mounted onto vellum tabs.
Date "1712" prominently stamped onto the front cover long ago, likely around this date.
Historically unique and desirable book with such an early date stamped onto it, also with functional hand-made metal clasps affixed to the original vellum.
Lovely early German script typography, many large pictorial woodcuts (which include skulls and cherubs), wide assortment of interesting tiny woodcut decorative border ornaments throughout, all printed on fine quality hand-made paper. 342 pp.+ [supplement: t.p., 5 pp].
Tight and sound as issued, solid binding, minor short splitting to vellum along bottom edge at joint corners. Vellum age soiled from handling, various old interesting markings worthy of investigation, vellum could readily be cleaned of old surface soil if desired, although this overall age patina is pleasantly mellow, utterly unique and very pleasing to our eyes.
Clasps still function as issued, original tabs and book remain well preserved. Rare thus.
