Introduction a la Geographie, Avec une Description Historique Sur touttes les parties de la Terre,  by N. de Fer.
Published 1716, Paris by Sr. Danet Gendre de l'Auteur.
206 pages. 6 large folding engraved maps of the world and continents (one is a celestial chart), miniature world in double hemispheres showing California as an island on title page.

With a splendid world in double hemispheres with medallion portraits of early explorers and a great map of North America vividly depicting California as a distinct island.

Original period full speckled calf leather binding, raised bands, gilt lettering and floral decoration in compartments, marbled end papers and edges. Binding remains tight and sound. Maps well inked, pleasing impressions, overall fine and lovely. World map with a couple old paper repairs on reverse to short inset tear.

Small chip at spine head to portion of top compartment, joints scuffed but still holding well and firmly, a most pleasing example overall.

Scarce to rare early 18th century geographical gazetteer/ pocket atlas.

Book measures: 7 3/4" H X 5 1/8" W.
