Two rare books, bound together long ago. A very rare early printed image of a harlequin.
Book measures: 5 1/4" H X 3 1/2" W.
Chilton, Harlequin Unmasked- the Commedia dell'arte [Yale UP], numerous related 18th century engraved images of harlequins. This particular image seemingly dating to c.1690's, Paris; however here rendered anew, in reverse from that earlier and immensely rare image, this newer image displaying major modifications to the original design. A very rare harlequin item, possibly unique.
