Maine state Northern Border Dispute 1842 newspaper map Webster settlementBrian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints
Map of the North Eastern Boundary. [Maine].
(United States, New England, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Canada, New Brunswick).
Issued 1842, New York, by The New York Journal of Commerce newspaper. Cartography based upon Morse.
Rare mid-19th century cerographic newspaper map relating to the resolving of the northern boundary of Maine state with Canada. Text relating to the state and terms of settlement of the issue down left side, signed in print for American statesmen Daniel Webster & Ashburton who negotiated it.
Map and text printed less than 3 weeks after the Treaty was signed on 9 Aug., thus a very early contemporary printing.
Light uniform paper age toning, old fold lines, the front leaf of the paper only, a single sheet, overall mostly remaining clean - a pleasing and relatively well preserved visual example of a very fragile and scarce broadsheet sized survival.
Sheet measures c. 28" H x 23" W.
Printed area measures c. 9" H x 11 1/4" W.
