Chicago: A Century of Progress. 1833-1933.

World's Fair exhibition souvenir scrapbook album, reflective silver paper over oblong heavy cardstock boards, decorative fabric binding string.
Issued 1933, images within all printed well before 1933, the whole collection contained within likely assembled prior.

Oblong silver boards with color Hall of Sciences color onlay, 12 scrapbook leaves (24 pp.) with 63 c.1870's-1920 printed (Catholic) small personal holy images affixed by the early owner. This type of reflective silver was widely used on printed material of all sorts and genres for visitors. A great example of tourist souvenir novelty printing during its prime.

The images are all (often much) older than the scrapbook, and include numerous 19th century color or chromo-lithographed cards, three engraved in miniature with intricate die-cut lace borders, seven with shaped edges, one in booklet format, two folding to open, most appear of German origin. Clearly the owner cherished these holy reminders and wanted a permanent portable reference to view them as desired.

Scrapbook is physically old (1933) and shows some signs of handling and time.

Binding still looks great, but as expected is a bit age worn around the edges and at corners, remains overall attractive as a relatively fragile paper and cardboard object from almost 90 years ago. A very nice assortment of individual well printed antique images in a wide variety of printing methods, a wonderful addition to any collection that contains well printed popular press ephemera.

Album black paper is gently toned, still seems sturdy, a bit edge fragile, internally still pretty well preserved, tight, sound, mostly clean.

Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age appearance and is in nice condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.

Please review photos for more details. A one-of-a kind collection of nicely printed small artistic images.

Book Measures c. 7 1/4" H x 11 1/4" W.
