Africa Mts. of Moon Nubia cherubs cartouche Mallet 1719 antique hand color map
$ 75.00

(Africa- Nubia- Mts. of Moon shown- source of Nile)

Issued 1719, Frankfort, Germany for A.M. Mallet

Charming early 18th century copper engraved map, with pleasing full hand color. The image has a near folk-art feel, a style of image quite unique to this time in history. Utterly unlike anything produced today and of modern aesthetic appeal for this very reason.

Note how there is a long series of Mountains which corresponds exactly to the region most often shown with the mythical range Mountains of the Moon. Also, two large lakes are shown, also in the same location as the mythical source of the Nile. Nice cherub cartouche.

A picture is worth a thousand words. The photos are a major part of the item description. Please examine them closely, as what you see is what we will send you.

[note: we grade conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws.].

Print paper and engraved area remains well preserved. Some light age wear or surface spotting/ soiling which is visible within the scan, nothing offensive or severe, overall remains clean and nice.

Paper and image remains overall clean & sound. Old maps & prints often display small minor repairs on the back, could have uneven blank margins, might have extraneous fold-lines or other small minor age flaws which do not detract from the visual appeal or value. Condition is carefully considered in arriving at our price.

Great old vintage antique print entirely worthy of hanging for display.

Sheet measures c. 8 " H x 6 " W.
