Large, detailed and attractive early 19th century folio engraved map.
With pleasing original outline hand color. Stipple engraving within Arabia.
Displays a very detailed topography and geography for this date.
Numerous caravan and travel routes are depicted, including a note on the route from Basra to Medina noting that "35 days reported time for the pilgrims".
The interior detail also locate watering holes (for camels), traditional and early travel routes across Arabia & Persia, notes about dialects, tribes, races, etc.
There are at least two variants of this Thomson map, with differing details in region of Abyssinia and elsewhere.
In near VG mostly clean condition.
Map very gently spotted and lightly toned, some light offsetting which in no way detracting, some extraneous paper wrinkle along center-fold.
Otherwise remaining clean and quite well-preserved overall.
Sheet measures c. 28" W x 21 1/4" H.
Engraved area measures c. 23" W x 20" H.
