Artillery carriages original c.1815 antique engraved printBrian DiMambro- Antique & Vintage Maps, Prints, Books & Gold Coins
Printed Philadelphia: c.1815.
Fine original antique engraved image, produced in the early 19th century in America.
This particular type of 19th century engraved printing process is very time intensive and highly skilled, involving long-trained artisans and challenging hand operated machinery, both of which are now quite rare. Because of these and various other labor factors, it is now essentially extinct as a method of reproducing popular images such as this one.
Printed on quality period paper which shows typical signs of age, but retains its inherent structural flexibility and soundness.
An appealing, unusual and interesting illustrated view from the early part of the 19th century.
In Fair to Good or better antiquarian condition, sheet uniformly age toned as typical, scattered mostly small foxing and age spotting as seen, light minor age dustiness /surface wear -- please inspect zoomable photo closely.
Sheet shows signs of age and is not perfect or like new. But it is also not awful or visually offensive. Rather, the ageing gives it a fine appearance.
An interesting 200+ year old image entirely worthy of ownership and display.
[ note: We grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws. We are doing our best to show & describe this item so you are happy when it arrives ].
The printed area remains pleasing and retains a visual charm utterly unlike modern printing. When you see this print in person you will know it's old. The appearance of this sheet of paper is wonderful to the trained eye.
Overall a nice impression of an original and interesting antique printed image that any collector, curator or institution would be happy to own or display.
Sheet measures c. 8 1/2" W x 10 7/8" H.
Printed area measures c. 7" W x 9" H.
We encourage you to print this desciption to keep with the image.
