(New Holland- Australia- Asia- Africa)

issued Amsterdam, 1798 engraved by Cs. van Baarsel.

Scarce and well-preserved late 18th century folio sheet nautical themed map of the Eastern Hemisphere, from England to China.  The detailed nautical tracks of Stauntons voyage from England to China and back are shown in detail, many engraved notes across the map.

Most noteworthy for the large and prominent depiction of Nieuw Holland [New Holland] or Australia .

Beautifully hand colored.

In VG, mostly clean condition, minor insignificant tiny age flaws in spots, short tear at top left near inset tab mended on verso long ago with old paper and now appearing like a minor wrinkle. The sheet remains quite well-preserved, with a very fine visual appeal.

A wonderful map which will look most handsome once framed.

Sheet measures c.25" W x 18" H.

Engraved area c. 23" W x 14 1/2" H.

Original fold lines as issued.

Folio.

Rare. Appears to have escaped the notice of Tooley in his monumental " Mapping of Australia ", where he mentions only 5 maps from the Dutch van Baarsel family, but not this one. A map most collectors will not only not possess, but will likely be unaware of.
