Issued New York, 1864 by J.H. Colton. [imprinted 1855, but this a later revised state].
Lovely mid-19th century antique engraved map with original hand color.
Scarce Civil War era imprint. Full page of various types of 1860 detailed facts and statistics about Australasia printed on the back.
Colton as well as Johnson and Mitchell regularly updated their map plates during this period and as such there are numerous variants of this fine state map, differentiated by emerging counties, extended rail line connections, newly formed town names and so on.
In VG or better condition, minor light surface age wear and toning as typical, overall the sheet and printed image remains clean and well preserved.
Sheet measures c. 14 1/2" X 17 1/2".
Engraved area measures c. 13 1/4" X 15 3/4".
