Baby girl and her young brothers ca. 1850's fine antique printBrian DiMambro- Antique & Vintage Maps, Prints, Books & Gold Coins
Issued New York: in the middle of the 19th century, likely ca. 1855.
Engraved by W. G. Jackman.
(print was aquired loose & undated, as offered; our approximate dating here is speculative and is our best attempt to state it correctly).
A very appealing mid-19th century engraved print.
This particular type of 19th century printing process was laborious, involving long-apprenticed highly trained hand artisans. It also involved challenging hand-operated machinery, skill acquired over many years, patience, and other endless tasks and manual labor. Because of these and various other factors, this printed leaf is an interesting original artifact from long past moment in printing.
The original printed source of the image should not in any way be considered a fault or defect. Rather, it is a simple and fascinating historical reality which makes it what it is today for our eyes. Read Q. David Bowers countless discussions of connoiseurship of old antique items for more of this line of thinking.
