Balkan Village Massacres Church Burning the Dead Nice 1877 pictorial printBrian DiMambro- Antique & Vintage Maps, Prints, Books & Gold Coins
The Massacres in the Balkan Villages
(Bulgarians Burnt by the Turks at Dalboka- Church of Geula Mahalisse with Graves of the Massacred)
Issued 1877 London for Illustrated London News
A visually appealing and uncommon antique wood-engraved print.
It is an original very old pictorial (wood engraved) sheet extracted from a scarce mid-19th century illustrated popular periodical.
Offered for the historical interest of the topic as well as the modern appeal of the printed image. The visual presentation is unique to the era and this type of printed popular newsprint image.
In Good+ [or better] condition: displays uniform age toning as typical for this age image. There may be light scattered spotting, possibly small minor edge splits now repaired on the back with small pieces of archival tape. Any surface defects or nicks/ blank margin issues may hopefully be clearly seen in the scanned image. There are no defects which would render this sheet undesirable.
Please examine the scan closely as the picture forms part of the description, so please take a close look. There is a zoom feature, so you can see the entire printed surface remarkably close up.
There is text/ possibly other images on the back because it was extracted from an illustrated periodical from the 19th century. Great fun & very interesting to look at both sides.
Overall, the main image area remains very attractive- unquestionably an appropriate old print for framing.
[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws].
** The type of wood-pulp paper used by the periodical in this era is now somewhat delicate and needs to be handled a bit carefully **
Great, unique old printed image entirely worthy of presenting to someone as a present or hanging for display.
Sheet measures c. 15 1/8" H x 10 1/2" W.
Printed area measures c. 12 1/4" H x 8 3/8" W
