Belgians, Fleeing From German Opression, Escaping Through The Electrified Fence At The Dutch Border By Means Of A Barrel

The Road To Freedom Through An Empty Barrel

By a Belgian Refugee

Issued 1918, Scientific American

A visually appealing antique line-engraved print. It is an original pictorial sheet extracted from a scarce 19th century illustrated popular periodical.

Offered for the outstanding modern appeal of the printed image as well as the historical interest of the topic and how it is presented.

In Good+ [or better] to near VG condition: displays uniform age toning as typical for this age image.  There may be light scattered spotting, possibly small minor edge repairs on the back with small pieces of archival tape. Any defects along the sheet edges and in the blank margins may be seen in the photos.

Please examine the scan closely as the picture forms part of the description, so please take a close look. There is a zoom feature for each picture, so you can see close up.

There is text on the back because it was extracted from an illustrated periodical from the 19th century. Great fun to look at both sides.

Overall, the image area remains clean and very attractive- absolutely appropriate for framing and display. [note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws].

** The type of wood-pulp paper used by the periodical in this era is now somewhat delicate and needs to be handled carefully **

Great, unique old printed image entirely worthy of hanging for display or presenting to someone as a present.

Sheet measures c.  15 1/8" H x  10 3/8" W.

Printed area measures c. 13 7/8" H x  9 1/2" W
