Map of Boston by
The Metropolis Map Co. 1890 NY (cerographic)

Issued Boston, 1889 by Damrell and Upham, 283 Washington Street.

Original maroon gilt lettered cloth binding, very large folding map . Includes two lovely antique engraved maps of Boston.

In now fragile condition. Long separations along some foldlines due to fragile nature of bond paper used. Map must be handled with great care. Small old ink stain top right corner in water area, slight wrinkling to onion skin type paper, some browing along some fold lines, etc. Still mostly very clean.

Minor light surface age wear and toning as typical, some faint minor foxing in the blank margins, overall the paper and map remains clean, well preserved and very attractive. the big issue is the paper used, which has age browned along the foldlines and is now somewhat tender. Perfect example to have professionally laid down onto rice paper as there is almost no loss of the original printed surface.

Second supplemental (extra) more detailed 1890 city map affixed inside front cover. This map with a three column key below title identifying 96 specific important locations, theatres, buildings, hotels, etc.

Original fold lines for both maps as issued. Second map also displays some splitting along some fold lines, but is otherwise very clean and well preserved. It is simply the paper has not withheld the repeated foldings.

Primary map measures c. 31" x 21 1/2"

Printed area measures c. 30" x 20 1/2"

Supplemental small 1890 cerographic map measures c. 13 1/2" x 17"

Both maps Folio format.
